SUKKUR: The Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday upheld decision of election tribunal to reject candidatures of Pakistan Peoples Party leaders Manzoor Wassan and Mohammad Bux Mahar who had filed papers for contesting PS-27 and PS-20, respectively.

A double bench comprising Justices Naimatullah Phulpoto and Shamsuddin Abbasi heard separate petitions filed by Mr Mahar and Mr Wassan and upheld decision of Sukkur election tribunal and returning officer of Ghotki on rejection of nomination papers of the PPP leaders.

In two identical cases, the bench overturned election tribunal’s decision and allowed PPP candidate for NA-204 Mir Khalid Ahmed Khan Loond to contest election, and permitted a candidate for PS-34 (Khairpur) Dr Sattar Rajpar to contest polls.

The bench, however, upheld decision of election tribunal and returning officer on rejection of nomination papers of independent candidate for PS-24 (Sukkur) Gohar Khoso.

Ali Mardan Shah allowed to contest polls

UMERKOT: The Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court allowed Syed Ali Mardan Shah of PPP to contest PS-52 (Umerkot).

Barrister Zameer Ghumro told Dawn on phone that Arbab Samejo of PTI had filed objections against Mr Shah after the end of deadline on June 19.

Mr Ghumro argued that Mr Shah’s first wife had died a long time ago. The gold was given to him by his in-laws, he had provided details of land and other properties and he had no assets out of country. His son and daughter were married and no more his dependents, he said.
