RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Monday asked its elected members to submit development schemes for the next fiscal year.

However, the RCB officials made it clear that the civic body had allocated Rs165 million for the development projects while Rs250 million would be available for the ongoing development works and repair and maintenance.

A pre-budget meeting was held with RCB Cantonment Executive Officer Sabtain Raza in the chair. The elected members led by RCB Vice President Malik Munir were present on the occasion.

A senior official of the RCB told Dawn: “The elected members asked the cantonment board to launch work to improve the water supply projects besides installing new tube wells and filtration plants as civilian population of the cantonment was hot by water shortage,” he said.

He said that priority would be given to water issues otherwise the civilian population of the cantonment areas would come on the streets in hot and humid season.

“The elected members of the cantonment agreed to press the federal government to allocate funds for the water supply from Ghazi Brotha Dam,” he said.

The senior official said the RCB officials also briefed about the annual budget and tax recovery.

“The elected members had been asked to help the RCB officials in recovering water charges and property tax in main commercial areas,” he said.
