PESHAWAR: The city police on Friday arrested a suspect along with his accomplice for allegedly murdering five members of his family earlier this week.

The suspected killer, whom the police identified as Junaid, entered his house in Lala Kallay area falling in the limits of Chamkani police station in the wee hours on Tuesday, and killed five members of his family, including two minors and women, with headshots.

SSP operations Javed Iqbal told a press conference that they had arrested the main accused along with a facilitator and recovered the weapon used in the murder. He said the accused had confessed to the killings.

SSP Iqbal said the initial investigation pointed towards the property related issues.

He said Junaid had returned from Turkey in January where he reportedly spent time behind bars for some criminal activity.

The police officer said during investigation they only came to know about the accused returning to the country. He said they had arrested Junaid’s brother-in-law, Aamir from his residence in Hazarkhawni locality of the city.

Police said investigation showed that another brother of the accused had committed suicide two years back, while his mother and two sisters had disappeared in mysterious situation.

He said Juanid suspected his brother responsible for disappearance of his sisters and mother. Police said case of women’s disappearance was not registered with police and they would now also look into it as well.
