HYDERABAD, May 17: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has issued notices to all departments and autonomous bodies of the federal and provincial government to clear outstanding bills by the new deadline and warned that their power supply will be disconnected if fail to do so.

Hesco director (commercial) Khursheed Ahmed Shah told Dawn on Tuesday that an amount of Rs450 million was outstanding against the departments of the federal government and an amount of Rs919 million was outstanding against the departments of the Sindh government and autonomous bodies.

He said Wapda had announced a special package for government departments that if they clear arrears by June 30, they would be exempted from payment of surcharge.

The deputy director, commercial, Mr Mehmood Qaimkhani, appealed to heads of departments to take advantage of the package and clear their arrears by June 30.

The official said, of the total outstanding dues, an amount of Rs68.225 million was outstanding against the federal local bodies and an amount of Rs552.588 million against the provincial local bodies.

The Hesco official said the company could not afford such a huge deficit.
