KARACHI: Attock Cement Pakistan Ltd (ACPL) has started operations of its new production line at Hub, Balochistan.

The production capacity of this line is 4,000 tonnes per day (1.2 million tonnes per annum), the company informed in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

A company official told Dawn that $130 million was spent on this expansion, which increases the total plant capacity to 10,000 tonnes per day.

The expansion has been completed in a record 22 months with the entire project constructed and commissioned by the help of Pakistani engineers. It is a brand new Chinese-cum-European hybrid plant.

According to an analyst at BIPL Securities, the company also plans to install a 15-megawatt waste heat recovery power plant to help curtail production costs.

He said with the commissioning of new lines of Lucky Cement and ACPL, cement prices may come under pressure in the southern region.
