LAHORE: Former vice chancellor of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) was arrested in the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) question paper leak scandal.

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) had taken Prof Junaid Sarfraz into custody a few days back and handed him over to the anti-corruption department.

CIA Lahore Superintendent of Police Nadeem Abbas confirmed to Dawn Sarfraz had been taken into custody. He further said the anti-corruption department had taken up the matter and started a high-level inquiry. Since the issue involved a government servant, the CIA handed over Sarfraz to the anti-corruption department, he added.

Another official privy to the information said another high-level committee headed by Frontier Constabulary commandant, Additional Inspector General of Police Hussain Asghar, was conducting inquiry into the same scandal. Representatives of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), CIA and other relevant law enforcement agencies were also part of the committee.

The UHS had conducted the MDCAT exam on Aug 20, the question paper of which had been leaked on social media by some students.

According to a preliminary inquiry submitted by the committee to the chief minister, the mafia involved in this scandal had sold each question for Rs2,000 and later settled at Rs1.2 million for the entire paper.
