KARACHI: Tariq Ali of Pakistan Navy dethroned department-mate and holder Qasim Abbas to emerge new national Wind Surfing (RSX class) champion as the three-day sailing event concluded near Bundle Island of Korangi Creek the other day.

Qasim had to be content with second spot while Sajjad of the PAF captured third place.

Meanwhile, the pair of Xerxes Avari and Mehboob clinched the first trial series in the 470 class for the Asian Sailing Championship being held in Jakarta in June next.

The national champion duo of Rehmanullah and Khalid Hussain were pushed to second place.

Najeebullah won the trials in Laser Standard class by getting the better of national champion Mohammad Tanveer. Najeeb won seven of the total nine races.

The team for Jakarta will be finalised after completion of the next two series of races.
