TIMERGARA: The local administration on Saturday succeeded in extinguishing a forest fire that had broken out in the Bambolai hills in Adenzai.

Additional Assistant Commissioner, Adenzai, Aleem Khan Umarzai, told reporters at Chakdara that after getting information about the forest fire the administration promptly sent a fire brigade vehicle and directed police and Levies officials to reach the site. He said the locals also helped in controlling the blaze thus.

Also on Saturday, Mr Umarzai paid a surprise visit to different markets in Chakdara and checked weight of bread, official price list and quality of food items. Several shopkeepers were fined on the spot and many were booked for overcharging.

SPORTS TOURNAMENT: The annual district sports’ competitions among government and private high and higher secondary schools began at different grounds on Saturday.

District education officer Dr Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim, general secretary of district sports’ committee Humayun Khan, and other officials inaugurated the events.

Talking to this correspondent, Mr Ibrahim said the district had been divided into various zones, adding cricket, hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, tug-of-war, Kabbadi, athletics and declamation competitions had been included in the tournament. He said the tournament would continue till Nov 8.

QWP ACTIVIST INJURED: An activist of Qaumi Watan Party received bullet injuries when unknown persons opened fire on him in Shawa area of Ouch on Friday night, residents and police said.

They said Hidayat Khan, also a village council vice chairman, was on way home when an unknown person opened indiscriminate fire on him near his home. As a result, he was injured. He was taken to the THQ hospital Chakdara where his condition was stated to be out of danger.

The law enforcement agencies arrested the brother of a suspected militant.
