A refuelling vehicle collided with a parked Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane at Canada's Toronto Pearson International Airport on Friday, delaying the Lahore-bound flight by 16 hours.

Flight PK-798 was scheduled to take off at 7:40pm, however, the Boeing 777 aircraft was damaged when a refuelling vehicle operated by a local company collided with the plane's engine during refuelling, PIA spokesman Mashood Tajwar said in a statement.

The plane was subsequently shifted to the hangar for necessary repairs.

According to the spokesman, a delay of 16 hours was expected in the flight due to the incident, therefore all passengers have been provided accommodation in hotels.

The flight will now depart for Lahore from Toronto at 9pm (Pakistan time) on Saturday.

PIA management has informed the company providing refuelling services to the airline at Toronto airport about the incident. An explanation has also been sought from the local company.

Earlier in January this year, the same Toronto-Lahore flight was suspended after a PIA aircraft clipped the wing of an Air France plane while taxiing to its gate at Pearson airport.
