KARACHI: Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra said on Monday that the real tribute one could pay to the first prime minister, Shaheed-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan, was to follow his teachings.

He was talking to the media after laying a floral wreath at the tomb of Liaquat Ali Khan on the occasion of the death anniversary of the country’s first prime minister.

The late prime minister made great sacrifices for the country, said Vohra, but it was very unfortunate that the enemies of the newly founded country succeeded in assassinating him soon after independence.

If sufficient time had been available to the late prime minister, who was a trusted deputy of the Quaid-i-Azam, he could have put the country on the path of progress and development.

Vohra added that seminars, symposia and other programmes should be organised to highlight the role played and sacrifices made by the leaders of the independence movement so that younger generations can become aware of the struggle waged to get a separate homeland.

He said that the late prime minister loved Pakistan very much and the proof of it was that his last words, after being fatally shot in Rawalpindi, were “May God protect Pakistan”.
