RAWALPINDI: The police seized a car carrying 600 pieces of illegal explosives during a security check at a police post in Naseerabad on Thursday.

According to bomb disposal experts, the explosives were Pakistan made and were packed in six bags.

The driver pulled over when the police signalled him to stop but got out of the car and managed to escape.

Other than the six bags of explosives weighing a total of 74 kilograms, the police also found the registration book for the car with the licence plate ICT-716.

According to the registration book, the car is owned by one Muzamil Khan from Mardan.

The police said it is yet to be ascertained what the explosives were to be used for.

“They are locally made explosives as only license holders can import explosives,” a bomb disposal expert said.

The explosives were handed over to the Counter Terrorism Department and a case was registered against unidentified persons.
