REFERENCE Nadeem F. Paracha’s article ‘Lessons from PS-114’ (July 16).

Saeed Ghani is an ethnic Sindhi and not a Mohajir as called by him. Mr Ghani’s father, late Usman Ghani , was also an ethnic Sindhi and was president of the MCB Staff Union for more than three decades.

The PPP had never won from this constituency; it was a musical chair type of seat , which was won by the MQM and by Irfanullah Marwat, in turn. This time the entire government machinery, including the police force, were employed, and polling stations were shifted to far-off places to discourage MQM voters and other parties from going there. Hence the result in favour of the PPP.
