LARKANA: A peasant was shot dead while he was working on his field in Fatehpur village, some 10km from here, on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Abdul Ghaffar Mirani.

Officials at the Dhamraho police station said that it was the latest of a series of attacks and counter-attacks involving two rival groups of the Mirani clan going on since 1976.

They said that the enmity had already left as many as 20 people dead and many others wounded.

They said raids were carried out on the houses of suspected attackers in Fatehpur village but the inmates seemed to have vacated them to escape arrest.

The body was handed over to the heirs after a post-mortem examination performed at the Chandka Medical College Hospital.

Members of the bereaved family did not speak to reporters about a motive behind the attack.

However, disappearance of the suspected members of the Mirani clan in the rivalry gives impetus to the suspicion that the murder is linked with the same old enmity.
