KARACHI: A huge fire that had erupted in a plastic godown in the Mauripur area was brought under control after hectic efforts lasting several hours on Thursday.

According to fire brigade and police officials, the fire broke out in the godown located near Mauripur truck stand at around 12.30pm. Initially, two fire tenders were sent to control the blaze but it spread rapidly owing to heavy wind and plastic goods.

Realising the gravity of the situation, the firefighters declared it a second-degree fire and four more fire tenders and one bowser were brought in to fight the blaze.

Over six fire tenders were used to contain the fire after three hours. However, the cooling process was under way till late in the evening.

An official at the Lyari Fire Brigade said the cause of the fire and the losses incurred could not be ascertained immediately.
