LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah has expressed concern over the large number of cases pending in Punjab courts.
“Some 200,000 cases are pending with districts courts across Punjab while the number of such cases in the LHC is around 130,00,” said Justice Shah in his keynote speech at the concluding session of the two-day international round-table conference on scope and future of judicial academies organised by the Punjab Judicial Academy (PJA) in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Sunday.

The justice system was meant to ensure provision of justice to the common man. “The importance of Metro bus, roads and other development works cannot be undermined but the common man wants quick dispensation of justice,” said Justice Shah while stressing the need to rectify the grey areas in the system.
Referring to the traditional procedure of case management, the LHC chief justice pointed out the hindrances in disposing of cases while urging judicial officers and judges to make themselves fully conversant with latest knowledge in order to monitor and expedite the hearing of cases.
He said that Punjab Judicial Academy (PJA) was imparting training to all the judicial officers and court staff of the province. The PJA was currently overhauling its approach towards the curricula, faculty development, research and publication, methods of adult training, use of information technology, monitoring and evaluation and administration of the judicial academy.
Directors general of federal and all provincial judicial academies, jurists and legal experts from different countries including Ireland, Turkey, Nepal, South Africa and Greece participated in the conference.

honorable C.J LHC is quite right in saying about quick dispensation of Justice , it is nothing to do with Metro or other infrastructure , Courts can do this even having not much resources , only needed thing is the will .

Their clerks probably need to update their computer systems skills as well.

what you , yourself did? when an application was sent to you to seek explaination from assistant registrar, lahore high court, Mr. A.D. Khalid. Your advocates keep taking money from plaintiffs, to write petitions, where as such matters can be resolved by provincial and federal ombudsman.

Absolutely.CJ LHC has rightly drawn attention towards grey areas and bureaucratic red tapism,which delay the Federal Govt offices of ministries dealing public for their genuine rightful routine matters,isn't it appalling that 330,000 cases are pending only in Punjab,if you add cases from other provinces too,the figure may exceed 500,000.Worse are the circumstances in ministerial offices,lack of governance,the habit of delaying inordinately the public matters are rampant,maladministration,injustices,non- transparent decisions are order of the day. In developed nations the government functionaries normally respond to email or post inquiries within 2 to 5 days,besides right of information is open for all citizens and residents as well.We talk about democracy but we only choose only those lines which comfort the bureaucrats and politicians,and keep the common man grievances as no subject.There is dire need to enforce strict SOP and with time limits to deliver to public works or leave job.

It is the courts and mafia in courts to blame for such a miserable system where only orders are passed but no justice is provided. You and your colleagues are responsible for this injustice prevailing in Pakistan.

the basic necessities of life is not metro bus rather govt should educate and provide the very basic necessities for example good health facilities and cheap education provision.

I have seen how courts conduct their dept exams. Cheating conditions are worse than B.com papers held in Sindh. Expecting Justice is foolish.

Why everybody makes speeches? Mr Chief Justice go ahead who is stopping you from correcting the extremely lengthy and complicated procedures in courts? My father is involved in a small property case, which is like two plus two, but after two years, we see little progress.

Chief Justice sahib has been highlighting pending cases in the courts for quite some time. Justice delayed is justice denied. We (masses) fully support you sir in your Noble cause. It is time some important measures must be taken in the form of judicial reforms that should reduce the time limit of finalization of cases in the court. My request to law makers and lawyers is to please help chief justice. Sahib in this Noble cause irrespective of your political affiliation.

Kudos to the Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah for his true and timely statement pertaining to the slow pace of the justice system in the "land of the pure" in general and its biggest populated province Punjab, in particular.
The "movers and shakers" living in GOR I, II and III in Lahore must understand, realize and know that in all law textbooks taught in the whole world, there is one common theme on which everybody no matter which country or place they stem from, agrees as following:

In a nutshell, that is exactly the hallmark of justice system in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
