PML-N's Javed Latif tendered an unconditional apology to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's Murad Saeed on Thursday for his lewd remarks regarding the latter's family.

The apology came during a session of the National Assembly.

Latif said he regretted all the things he had said during his tiff with Saeed.

"I said those words in the heat of the moment and I apologise for all my remarks," Latif said.

A representative of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas in the assembly, Shah Jee Gull Afridi, said the matter had been resolved through a committee that he had headed.

Afridi further said that the committee had decided not to take up a suggestion to ban both leaders from the assembly.

On March 9, a scuffle had broken out between Latif and Saeed outside the National Assembly after the PML-N leader called PTI chief Imran Khan a "traitor" during Assembly proceedings.

Latif said he had called Imran Khan a traitor for his derogatory remarks against foreign players called to fill in at the Pakistan Super League final on March 5.

The scuffle broke out as both lawmakers exited the Assembly and exchanged sharp words with each other.

Later, while commenting on the matter, Saeed claimed that PML-N parliamentarians had used derogatory and foul language against members of the PTI in the past as well.

"During Thursday's session, Jawed Latif called Imran Khan a traitor," he recalled. "When I protested against it, PML-N lawmakers told me they had labelled my leader as a traitor, not me," Saeed added.

Latif later adopted an apologetic tone over his remarks, but at the same time threatened PTI leaders with “dire consequences if they harm [him] again”.

PTI leader Arif Alvi had called for a ban on Javed Latif during March 10's assembly session, and PML-N had asked for the same against Saeed.

However, a committee was formed under Shah Jee Gul Afridi to determine the cause of the clash and fix responsibility.
