QUETTA: Police foiled a terrorist attack on security personnel on Sunday by defusing a bomb placed in a checkpost in the Sabzal Road area.

According to sources, an improvised explosive device in a carton was found in the empty checkpost which is occasionally used by police and Frontier Corps personnel.

Policemen patrolling the area on a motorcycle spotted it and called the bomb disposal squad and senior officers.

Personnel of the bomb disposal squad defused the explosive device.

“The IED weighing around 6kg had been planted to attack security personnel,” a police officer said, adding that on its batteries was written “A gift from the Dawat-i-Islam for Brewery police station.” Police authorities announced an award of Rs5,000 for the constable who spotted the IED.
