The Russian Armed Forces Day, also known as the Day of the Fatherland, was celebrated this week by Russian Ambassador Alexy Y Dedov and Military Attaché Capt Vladimir Balashov.

“In Russia, the day is celebrated to honour the men in the society and what they have done in peace and war. It is a day we feel proud of our homeland. There are no military parades,” explained a Russian guest, who added that today, women also serve in the military in many fields.

The GHQ chief of general staff Lt Gen Bilal Akbar and Air Marshal Mohammad Iqbal were invited to the event as chief guests. During the event, held at the Marriott Hotel, the national anthems of Russia and Pakistan were played but no speeches were made, which allowed for more time for the guests to mingle.
