Low literacy

Published December 3, 2016

LOW literacy is a major problem of our country. The constitution says: “The state of Pakistan shall remove illiteracy and provide free and compulsory secondary education within a minimum possible period.”

In Pakistan it has just 49.9pc educated populace (according to a human development report). The primary completion rate in Pakistan is 33.8pc in females and 47.18pc in males according to the Unesco, which shows that people of Pakistan, the 6th largest country in the world, are unable to get the basic education.

There are some basic problems of low education: (1)The education system is based on unequal line, (2) regional disparity, (3) ratio of gender discrimination, (4) lack of technical education, (5) funds and (6) untrained teachers and (7) poverty.

While resolving the problems of the education system, the government should take solid steps to implement policies instead of projecting them. Allocation of funds should be made easy by provinces to districts and then to educational institutes.

Workshops must be arranged for teachers who should be consulted while devising any plan, syllabus or policy.

Education is the only cure for the instability in the state and can bring about revolutionary changes through evolution and by eradicating social evils. This is how to illiteracy can be ended in Pakistan.
