RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has collected a property tax amounting to Rs230 million in the first quarter of the current fiscal year compared to Rs200 in the same period last year.

RCB spokesman Qaiser Mehmood told Dawn that the property tax collection had been improved due to the distribution of bills among the owners of commercial and residential properties on time.

“The property tax collection system has been computerised in the current fiscal year and all records have been converted into computers. The tax branch had been asked to facilitate the residents and make corrections in case of any inflated bills.”

He said the basic aim of the civic body was to improve the tax collection system so that the money could be spent on the development of the area. “The RCB is also planning to start development works next month after the board meeting schedule to be held on October 6.”

He said Rs52 million would be spent on the projects proposed by 10 elected members of the cantonment board. The funds will be spent on the construction of streets and roads, he said.
