SIALKOT: Up to 40 villages of Pasrur tehsil were inundated due to a breach in the protective dyke of flooded Nullah Dek late on Wednesday near Dariya Nangal village.

The villages under flooding include Dariya Nangal, Seehowal, Eispur, Shehzada, Wyne, Dhool Bajwa, Ooncha Pahaarang, Roopowali, Kaallowali, Umaara, Kheerey, Jabbokey, Jhaatokey and Tanbu Ghalib Shah. Crops of paddy and fodder on hundreds of acres are under three to four feet floodwater.

The repairing of breaches in nullahs Aik and Dek in Sialkot, Daska and Pasrur tehsils could not be started by the Sialkot district administration.

Flooding rendered several dozen families homeless and many were taking shelter on the rooftops of their houses there in the rain.

Pasrur Assistant Commissioner Zaheer Liaqat told Dawn three flood relief centres had been established in Pasrur.

Also, the Nullah Aik also caused seven breaches in its banks and protective dykes in and around the Sialkot city late on Wednesday.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Asif Tufail said breaches were developed in the banks of the Nullah Aik near localities Naikapura, Hajipura, Kishaneywali Phaatak, neighbourhood Araazi Yaqub, Shujaabad-Shafi Da Bhatta, Bahaar Colony and Nagor-Ghueinky.

The breaches flooded the urban areas of the Sialkot city besides 11 villages of Daska tehsil.

In Sialkot, the railway lines between Sialkot-Sambrial-Wazirabad and Sialkot-Pasrur-Narowal was under water while traffic on Sialkot-Bhaagowal Road and Sialkot-Pasrur Road remained suspended on Thursday.

The flow of floodwater was 34,383 cusecs in the Nullah Aik near Sialkot and 12,773 cusecs in the Nullah Dek near Pasrur. Sixteen Bajwat villages have been under flood water for the last days and the villages include Saddarpura, Ghazipur, Kaliyaal, Papeen, Jog, Bheince, Khanu Bhaou, Gangwal, Kothey Pathanan, Bajwaal, Beli and Dariya Bider becasue of the swelled River Tavi.

There is a low level flood in the River Chenab at Head Marala with a 125,313 cusecs inflow, while the River Tavi is in a high flood with 17,428 cusecs near Head Marala.

The Nullah Baeen near Shakargarh is also in a high flood and people living around the nullahs and rivers have started shifting to safer places after a warning by the district administration.

The DCO said relief activities were going on in the flood-hit areas. He said the repair of the breaches in both nullahs would begin soon.

GUJRANWALA: The floodwater of the Nullah Dek entered many villages of Kamoki tehsil on Thursday.

District Coordination Officer Muhammad Aamir Jaan visited the flood-hit areas and ordered repair of the breached embankments.

The breaches occurred near Sheaniwala inundating Rana, Nathranwali, Tamboli, Lahdewala, Kot Qazi, and Whando villages.

Hundreds of acres of paddy crop was also flooded.
