Chief justice takes suo motu notice of 'political interference in Sindh police'

KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Thursday took suo motu notice of a news report regarding alleged political interference in the Sindh Police by the provincial authorities.

Jamali summoned the Sindh chief secretary, home secretary and provincial police chief before the apex court on July 4 to explain their position with regards to the report.

The CJP also asked the officials to provide clarity regarding the recent transfer of Senior Superintendent Police-South Dr Farooq Ahmed following the kidnapping of Sindh High Court chief justice's son, Barrister Awais Shah.

The CJP met the officials separately a week ago after Shah's kidnapping in Karachi and directed them to take effective and concerted measures to ensure the lawyer's recovery.

Awais Shah was kidnapped from Clifton earlier this month, with police fearing the abduction could be used as a bargaining chip for militants' release.

The kidnapping was followed just days later by the high-profile assassination of qawwal Amjad Sabri in a targeted attack claimed by Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. Both incidents have raised question marks on the gains made during the Rangers-led Karachi operation.

Excellent news. Still there is some hope that effective preventive measures can be put in place to prevent political influence in police force. There should be a comprehensive plan for hiring, training, promotion and transfers of police officers. How to maintain police impartiality and independence is the key question. General public can have faith and trust police, only when police conducts itself in a professional way and treats all, rich, poor, powerful and weak with the same standards, that is law of the land. Police needs more training and must be efficient in its work.

The CJP must take use moto for failure in forming Local bodies in Karachi and ensure that Karachi police and Rangers function under the Mayor as in civil societies.

Our CJ Supreme Court is a gentle person. Happy to see him take this summo motto notice. We need his intervention to sort out the disqualification of Nawaz Shareef on lying on oath and misdeclaring his assets. He is absent from Pakistan , no explanation given. He befriends people who talk openly and threatening Pakistan and he chooses to keep mum. When will CJ take Summo Motto notice for Pakistan? The election commission is ineffective, and will be designed to remain so by Nawaz Shareef. NAB chief is under a serious corruption cloud, he has abdicated his responsibility when it comes to Nawaz Shareef. Pakistan can not afford being labeled anything else but democratic . To survive and prosper we have to put corrupt people behind bars. CJ we need you. Write your name in history and wash the sins of the Superior Judiciary if the past.
