KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Saturday directed authorities to take measures for the early recovery of Sindh High Court chief justice's son, Awais Shah, who was abducted from Karachi last week.

After separately meeting Chief Secretary Sindh, Home Secretary Sindh, Inspector General Police Sindh, Director General Rangers Sindh and other investigating officers at the Supreme Court's Karachi Registry, Jamali directed them to take effective and concerted measures to ensure the recovery of Barrister Awais Shah.

The officers briefed Jamali on the kidnapping and informed him of the measures so far taken by the Sindh Government for the recovery of the abductee.

The CJP said the incident had sent the wrong message to the general public, causing disappointment and a sense of insecurity among the legal fraternity and their families.

He directed the chief secretary to employ all resources to ensure improvement in the law and order situation of Sindh in general and Karachi in particular.

Son of the Sindh High Court’s chief justice, Barrister Awais Shah, was kidnapped from Clifton area on Monday, with police fearing the abduction could be used as a bargaining chip for militants' release.

The kidnapping was followed by the high-profile assassination of qawwal Amjad Sabri in a targeted attack on Wednesday, incidents that have raised question marks on the gains made during the Rangers-led Karachi operation.

Speaking during a Sindh Assembly session today, Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah announced that anyone providing information, which may lead to Awais's kidnappers, will be awarded 10 million rupees by the provincial government.
