GUJRAT: The district police have sought readjustment in the limits of two sub-divisional police circles as well as bifurcation of the Civil Lines police station to ward off the problems in administrative control due to “unnatural limits”.

Sources in police say the unnatural division of the limits of the Saddar and Lalamusa SDPO circles mean that Gujrat Saddar police station, which is geographically located close to the Saddar SDPO circle, is under the administrative control of Lalamusa circle whose headquarters is based far away in Lalamusa Town, whereas Kunjah police station, which is located in close limits of the Lalamusa SDPO circle, has been part of Gujrat Saddar SDPO circle whose headquarters is based in Jalalpur Jattan Town.

They said this division of the limits of the circles being headed by the deputy superintendents of police should be rectified which would also help in reducing the problems of the masses. Those residing in Kunjah police station’s areas have to travel up to Jalalpur Jattan Town to reach the Saddar DSP office for inquiries and investigation, whereas the people of Gujrat Saddar police station’s areas have to go to Lalamusa for the purpose.

The police have also sought bifurcation of the Civil Lines police station through inclusion of some of its areas into the city’s A division police station to reduce the workload on this territory-wise huge police station.

Originally, the district police had long been making efforts to get notified at least three new police stations by upgrading Shaheen Chowk, Mungowal and Dinga city police pickets through division of the Civil Lines, Kunjah and Dinga police stations. It has now been requested to at least divide the areas falling under the Civil Lines by including few areas into the limits of A division police station for the time being.

Gujrat DSP Legal Akhtar Gondal told Dawn that a formal request to the Punjab police chief had already been made by the DPO office and a notification would be issued after approval by the Home Department to change the limits and police stations as per the geographical location.
