KARACHI: An agreement signing and ground-breaking ceremony for the establishment of a campus of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and a state-of-the-art Liver Transplant Centre in the dedicated healthcare district of DHA City Karachi was held at the DCK on Thursday.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Corps Commander Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar were the chief guests at the ceremony. The governor appreciated the decision taken by the DUHS with DHA support to establish its campus at the DCK which would extend the frontiers of world-class medical education and qualitative healthcare services in the province. He said the new health facility at the DCK would be the most modern/advanced facility in the region.

Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar commended the DUHS decision to establish its campus in the DCK. He said the strength of the nation depended on the health and vitality of its people and it was reassuring that the new DUHS campus would be instrumental in extending qualitative healthcare and medical services outreach to the masses.

VC Dr Masood Hameed Khan said the DUHS would establish its campus spread over 10 acres under a four-staged development programme starting with the immediate setting up of a dispensary and an ambulance service, followed by a medical centre next year, graduating to a secondary care hospital and finally culminating into the establishment of a medical college linked to a teaching hospital.

DHA administrator Brig Zubair Ahmed said the DCK Healthcare District, spread over 95 acres, would have different campuses and the presence of leading hospitals and medical enterprises that would make it a nucleus for provision of world-class healthcare and medical facilities to the public.
