NAWABSHAH: Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari inaugurated Benazir District School for children aged two and a half years up to matriculation here on Friday.

Ms Bhutto-Zardari told journalists after the inauguration said that the Benazir school was a pilot project and the first school of its kind in Nawabshah. Similar projects would soon be launched in 50 other areas throughout Sindh, she said.

She said the school’s building was completed within the shortest possible time and it was fire-, heat-, water- and quake-proof. The provision of basic education and healthcare facilities was the mission of her slain mother Benazir Bhutto and they were trying to provide 21st century skills with the state-of-the-art facilities to all, she said.

She said that people having monthly income of Rs20,000 or less would be invited to get their children admitted to the school which would also provide lunch and milk to children.

Later, Ms Bhutto-Zardari inaugurated a video conference hall, a professional development centre and a health and fitness club at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University.

During her visit, she was accompanied by Sindh Education Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, secretary Dr Fazlullah Pechuho and MNA Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho.
