QUETTA: Interrogation of the arrested Indian intelligence operative Kulbhushan Yadav revealed he had been imparting Naval fighting training to Baloch separatists in an attempt to target Pakistani ports, a security official who declined to be named said on Sunday.

Yadav, who was arrested in Balochistan, is believed to be a member of Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

The Indian Foreign Ministry earlier confirmed the arrested man was a former Indian Navy officer, but the Pakistani government claimed to have recovered travel documents and multiple fake identities of Yadav, establishing him as an Indian spy who entered into Balochistan through Iran — holding a valid Iranian visa.

After his arrest, Yadav was shifted to Islamabad for interrogation, during which it was revealed that he had purchased boats at the Iranian port in Chabahar in order to target Karachi and Gwadar ports in a terrorist plot, the official said, adding that the 'RAW agent' is believed to be expert at Naval fighting techniques.

Yadav was also transporting 'anti-state elements' from Pakistan to New Delhi for training by RAW, he said.

Following recent revelations by the 'Indian spy', security has been tightened across Balochistan, especially at the shared borders with Iran and Afghanistan, and more arrests are expected, he said.

After his arrest, Pakistan summoned Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale to lodge a strong protest over 'India's spying activities' in Balochistan and Karachi.

The arrest of the 'RAW agent' comes just days before a possible meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.

Indian media reports claim the foreign secretaries of both countries, whose meeting to restart the Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue (CBD) in January was derailed by the Pathankot attack, are also due to meet in Washington.

At the beginning of March, Aziz had said that foreign-secretary levels talks would resume after the probe team's visit. The Pathankot Joint Investigation Team left for New Delhi on Sunday (today) and is expected to investigate the attack over the next week.

Pakistan and India had agreed to resume peace talks under the newly-coined phrase of CBD during Swaraj’s visit to Islamabad for the Heart of Asia Conference last year.

The dialogue was to take on matters related to peace and security, Jammu and Kashmir, Siachen, Sir Creek, Wullar Barrage, Tulbul Navigation Project, economic and commercial cooperation, counter-terrorism, narcotics control and humanitarian issues, people to people exchanges and religious tourism.

Shameful act by India.

Changez_Khan Mar 27, 2016 04:04pm

This RAW agent must be tried in the Military Court on terrorism charges and punished severely.

Harmony-1© Mar 27, 2016 04:15pm

India is exposed that it’s not just the non-state actors but actually the state-actors that are involved in terrorist activities and proxy wars in Pakistan. This is very serious indeed. Modi arrogantly admitted in Bangladesh that India helped Mukti Bahini as well. So, they have history of such nefarious activities and yet their propaganda machine blames Pakistan. If Pakistan (and China too) start tit for tat to flame insurgencies of Khalistan, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland etc then things could get uglier. So, India needs to mend its ways. Resolve Kashmir and live in peace like good neighbours!

Umair Hasan Mar 27, 2016 04:30pm

Oh my God.This seems to be a very big catch but just see the Indian media who are in denial. They are calling this as a Pakistani lie in wake of Brussels terror attack. This is the level of Islamophobia there. Also few of their patriotic channels called Tarek Fateh to spit venom on Pakistan. But one thing is sure that their media is very patriotic..

Prashantjain Mar 27, 2016 04:35pm

Serious allegations, when he had Iran visa how come he entered Baluchistan, was it a mistake or he entered intentional, seriously the guy is in great great trouble.

CH Mar 27, 2016 04:36pm

Well done ISI . No.1 intelligence agency in the world .we are proud of you. Now the spy will be facing the chin music

shopaholic Mar 27, 2016 04:38pm

One by one all Indian spies and agents are being caught.. no wonder security conditions have improved drastically in Pakistan. Pakistan should reciprocate the Indian govt by training Maoist and Naxalites

Saifullah Mar 27, 2016 04:42pm

Look for his accomplices and local handlers. Who knows there might be many more yadavas roaming around in Pakistan to create terror and unrest. He must be thoroughly debriefed to spill all the beans and the master mind behind him.

Desi Dimag Mar 27, 2016 04:43pm

Strange, why the civilian government is silent on this matter?

BaniaR Mar 27, 2016 04:45pm

So many RAW couples and families hiding all over need to be caught!

Factual Mar 27, 2016 04:45pm

Any sensible Indian should be ashamed on these revelations.

Maxx Mar 27, 2016 04:46pm

When the RAW and the Indian government will learn that it is the region which develops, this step is counter productive to India. The repercussions will be bad for both the countries.

Zak Mar 27, 2016 04:50pm

I hate to see Pakistan again in the tight spot between a Rock and a Hard place. 'Corner store Association of Pakistani Origin(CAPO)' in the USA is extending full moral support to Pakistan in this difficult time

ASIF Mar 27, 2016 04:52pm

Image of Pakistan has improved manifold after it has launched operation Zarb e Azb. Security condition has been on a roll. RAW rats are being caught. We need more in this regard that our country may get greater stability and emerge as an Asian tiger.

Syed Zafar Kazmi U.S.A Mar 27, 2016 05:10pm

The Iranian angle to this whole thing must be very carefully and cautiously examined by Pakistan taking into consideration that this Imdian agent may mislead Pakistani authorities into believing that there was some Iranian collusion which would impact Pakistan's relationship with Iran adversely.

Khan Bhai Mar 27, 2016 05:25pm

Poor spy.

Patriot Pakistani Mar 27, 2016 05:29pm

In the wake of this spy saga, Pakistan must stop helping India to investigate the Pathankot attack. Since when the Indians are our well wishers!

Desi Dimag Mar 27, 2016 05:34pm

Still waiting for the official statement.

FYi Mar 27, 2016 05:34pm

some one does not wants pakistan-iran co-opertaion ...rightly said by president ... some one favouring SA... hav you given thoughts on this line...

Khwarezmi Mar 27, 2016 05:55pm

Indians has gone into denial mode. Indian newspapers hardly write on it and the Indian gov is trying desperately to stay silent on the issue. Even Indian bloggers have closed their eyes.

It has been proven withouy doubt Indian are behind terrorism. Infact, the state is behind terrorism.

Yadav will most likely be tried as a terrorist. His confession video should be aired for the whole world to see.

Harmony-1© Mar 27, 2016 06:18pm

Let’s destroy each other with tit for tat by flaming insurgencies of Khalistan, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland etc. China should plunge in it too. And live happy ever after!!!

Jalbani Mar 27, 2016 06:23pm

I think this is the first time Pakistani intelligent forces are seriously running after the culprits of peace in the region and caught many criminals and their supporters. Indian has been fueling unrest in Pakistan and recent frequent security measures are evident. From now on Pakistani forces should understand that something goes up must come down. Do not support any religious group as none of them is friend of Pakistan.

Kashmiri National Mar 27, 2016 06:46pm

A huge blow to India. India has been caught with its pants down. Interrogate this man, make sure he reveals all his sources and informants - then execute him and televise it nationally. We also need to expand our intelligence operations in India.

Lafanga Mar 27, 2016 06:49pm

Both India and Pakistan need to sit down seriously and talk. India must pull back its spy sources from Pakistan. A peaceful and prosperous Pakistan and Afghanistan is what the region needs desperately for prosperity of all countries. This is serious stuff and I hope India does rethink its strategy viz a viz Pakistan.

KP Mar 27, 2016 07:02pm

Make an example out of this Indian!

Nadeem Mar 27, 2016 07:09pm

@Lafanga Well said..

Baba Bandook Mar 27, 2016 07:36pm

Here we go, what do India now have to say about it. They are always demanding from Pakistan to do more on eradicating terrorism while back stabing and creating problems in our yard. If India is going to excercise these double standards then Pak should also let India know of what it is capable of.

Sarai Alamgir Mar 27, 2016 07:36pm

Im pretty sure Iran knew this, thats why their President yeatetday avoided the question.

Lost cause Mar 27, 2016 10:48pm

Why pakistan is not allowing counsellor access to this man.

Ashutosh Mar 27, 2016 11:41pm

I think that there's something really fishy here. The guy may or might not be an agent, or that he was caught inside Iranian territory near the border and framed. Do interrogate him and bring him before the law. One should not be in denial mode for sure. It is still not conclusively proven but merely alleged. Please investigate and bring facts of judicial scrutiny before the world and shame the country to which he allegedly belongs. One thing is certain that he isn't a government servant though he used to be one!!!

M Mirza Mar 28, 2016 01:01am

there could be hundreds like these in pakistan. Pakistan should protest to Iran in the strongest terms .

M Mirza Mar 28, 2016 01:03am

@Desi Dimag Beacue Civilian government is interested in doing business with India.

Asif Mar 28, 2016 01:09am

Why would a "professional spy" on a mission will carry his real identity? We must ask this question before claiming any sort of victory..

East Indian Mar 28, 2016 01:57am

@Lafanga Completely agree with you. But for that both india and pakistan should have shared vision of future.

East Indian Mar 28, 2016 02:02am

@Factual Indians understand at any given point, both india and pakistan utilize their friends to exploit their vulnerebilities

Mustafa Mar 28, 2016 02:52am

Iran must not spread chaos directly or indirectly in Pakistan. Iranian interference in many countries is well documented. Pakistan must punish Iran for this.

wasim Mar 28, 2016 05:05am

ports? i good liar, no?

Rocky Mar 28, 2016 06:42am

Isn't it strange that this Indian spy was not carrying any weapons even for self protection hike in next territory?

Akil Akhtar Mar 28, 2016 10:03am

India has been back stabbing Pakistan for decades...

jehanzeb Mar 28, 2016 04:04pm

true face of India exposed. India from inception trying to destabilise Pakistan.

Gp65 Mar 28, 2016 06:23pm

@Sarai Alamgir he did not avoid the question. He said in no uncertain terms that the issue was Not Discussed with him.

Hamaad Mar 28, 2016 06:35pm

Interrogate this spy for all it is worth and get as much info from him. After that give him the punishment he deserves.

Ali Mar 28, 2016 06:37pm

Indian Naval Commander Kulbhushan Yadav was arrested not just for spying, which would be serious enough but for "planning, training and funding" terrorism in Pakistan. He was operating from Iran's Chabahar Port, near Pakistan's Gwadar Port. Was Iran complicit in terrorism or was it duped by India?

This is India's state-sponsored terrorism. This is an "Act of War". This serious violation of the UN Charter and International Law by India must be taken up with President Obama, when PM Nawaz Sharif meets him in Washington for Nuclear Security Summit. It must also be taken up with UN Security Council.

American Francis Gary Power on May 1, 1960, flew U-2 aircraft from Peshawar Air Base on spying mission over Soviet Union. He was shot down and captured. President Khruschev thundered this was an act of war by the US, he threatened to destroy Pakistan if it's territory was used against Soviet Union. India is now exposed using Afghanistan and Iran's territory to conduct terrorism in Pakistan.

Temo Shanko Mar 28, 2016 06:58pm

Why is Pakistan denying consular access for alleged RAW agent??

Khwarezmi Mar 28, 2016 07:01pm

@Lost cause You do not allow counsellor access to a foreign terrorist operative right in the middle of operations coming out of confession out of this RAW agent.

Vish Mar 28, 2016 11:54pm

Really weird. A retired naval officer training people how to attack ports in the middle of a desert in Balochistan. Something smells fishy here.

Nargis Mar 29, 2016 05:15pm

Who is the terrorist now? Excellent work on catching this criminal.

Kashif Mar 29, 2016 07:11pm

How exactly would our team investigate the Pathankot incident if India isn't granting them access to the base to gather first-hand forensic evidence?

M. Ali Mar 29, 2016 07:17pm

@Harmony-1© Tit for tat makes whole world blind. We are already suffering a lot bcos of terrorism .. Let's not spread it anymore to anywhere .. We should come together and remove terrorism once for all.

Khalid Mar 29, 2016 11:19pm

Throw him in "solitary confinement, and throw away the key"

Mahen Mar 30, 2016 07:33am

@Khalid Correct- BUT ONLY after proving the allegations!
