KARAK: The local chapter of the retired professors association has demanded establishment of a girls high school in all the backward areas of the district and immediate start of classes in the newly-established girls degree colleges.

The demand was made at a meeting here the other day chaired by the association’s district president Akhtar Kamal.

The participants lamented that backward areas of the district were deprived of girls high schools, which impeded girls education. They demanded equal opportunities of education for girls across the district.

The retired teachers pointed out that construction of girls degree colleges in Sabirabad and Banda Daud Shah had been completed, but the government was yet to make these institutions functional.

They said girls education was suffering in the district due to shortage of educational institutions, which forced the parents to arrange for their daughters’ education in other cities.

The meeting also demanded that shortage of staff in the already established colleges should be overcome without delay. They said as the PTI-led provincial government had declared education emergency in the province it should focus on addressing issues facing the educational institutions.

TRADERS PROTEST: Anjuman Tajiran-i-Karak has condemned the killing of Tajir Ittehad president Haji Haleem Jan in Peshawar and demanded arrest of the killers.

The demand was made at a meeting here the other day chaired by traders’ body district president Gul Razi Khan.

The meeting expressed anguish over the tragic killing of Haleem Jan and said his services for the community would always be remembered.
