LAHORE: Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan on Thursday announced the formation of Leather Export Promotion Council.

Addressing the Pakistan Mega Leather Show and Conference 2016 on Thursday, the minister said that the government would resolve the problems faced by the leather industry.

Talking to reporters he said Pakistan and Iran were in the process of negotiating closer trade ties as Tehran reintegrates in the global economy after lifting of sanctions.

“I had a meeting with the newly appointed Iranian Ambassador in Islamabad and discussed in detail the possibility of free trade agreement (FTA) as well as the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline,” he said.

He said Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif visited Iran and Central Asian states for improving Pakistan’s connectivity with that region.
