KARACHI: Nine people including seven children were injured in a grenade attack near a clinic in Chakiwara on Saturday.

Police believed that the attack could be a ‘reaction’ to the recent killing of some known figures of Lyari gang warfare.

While the grenade landed near a private clinic, Lyari SP Aftab Nizamani believed that the real target of the assailants could be a mobile van of the Chakiwara police station parked near the clinic.

According to senior medico-legal officer of the Civil Hospital Karachi Dr Nisar Shah, the victims were seven children and two men. “None of them sustained serious injuries,” he said.

Lyari SP Nizamani suspected involvement of the Uzair Baloch-led gang in the attack. He said three gangsters had been killed in ‘encounters’ in recent days in parts of Lyari. “Today’s grenade attack might be a reaction to the killing of the gangsters,” he added.
