HYDERABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali has said that appointment of judges in the Sindh High Court will be made in a transparent manner and there will be no nepotism in the appointment and elevation of judges.

He was speaking at a ceremony held here on Saturday for the inauguration of Mushtak Ali Kazi family park within the Judicial Officers Cooperative Housing Society, Kohsar. The chief justice planted a sapling in the park.

Supreme Court judges Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Mushir Alam, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Faisal Arab, Senior SHC puisne judge Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, retired Justice Hasan Feroz and others were present.

He said that after his elevation as the CJP, he had ensured that nine vacancies of high court judges were filled but six were still vacant. He asked the SHC management committee to recommend names for the six vacancies. He hoped that the new judges would help clear backlog of cases.

CJP Jamali called for close cooperation between the bench and the bar.

Regarding issues of the housing society, he noted that 40 acres of land was allotted to it when it was established but given the number of judicial officers, more land was now required.

Foundation of ATCs complex in jail laid Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the antiterrorism courts (ATC) complex on the premises of Karachi Central Prison, adds APP.

The complex with the provision to house 10 ATCs has been undertaken by the Sindh government for the much-needed safety of the judges hearing cases related to terrorism.

Appreciating the provincial government for the initiative, the chief justice expressed the hope that better and safe residential facilities would also be ensured for ATC judges. “I have been told that land has already been allocated close-by and work on it would soon be initiated,” he said.
