GUJRAT: The PML-N backed candidates have clinched majority seats in four out of total seven urban Municipal Committees (MCs), including that of the Gujrat city’s, while the PPP, PML-Q and PTI have won in one each MCs of the district according to unofficial polling results.

The ruling party has won in eight out of total 12 union councils of Gujrat MC, while PML-Q bagged three and PTI one UC. The PML-N’s Haji Nasir Mehmood who was allowed by the Supreme Court to contest the poll last Friday, won by a thumping majority, defeating both the PTI and PML-Q candidates in UC-3.

In Jalalpur Jattan MC the PML-N won 12 Wards out of 24, whereas PML-Q clinched eight, followed by three independents.

In Sara-i-Alamgir MC, independent group being backed by the PML-N MPA Hanif Awan won 8 seats out of 12 while the PTI and JI bagged one seat each.

In Dinga 11 seats are won by two independent groups backed by the ruling party lawmakers with another independent winning from a Ward as MPA Tariq’s group won six and MNA Jaafar’s group bagged five.

The PTI bagged Kharian city by winning eight wards, followed by the PML N’s three seats in total 11 wards of the MC.

The PPP in Lalamusa city won 13 wards out of total 24 as PTI won six PML-N 2, PAT one and one seat went to an independent candidate.

Former Tehsil Nazim of Kharian Nadeem Asghar Kaira, a cousin of PPP stalwart Qamar Zaman Kaira and Numan Aslam Kaira, cousin of former finance minister Tanveer Ashraf Kaira also won their seats.

In Kunjah independent Nishan-i-Haider group being backed by PML-Q and PTI won eight seats, followed by three seats of PML-N in total 11 wards.
