PESHAWAR: A man was killed in an incident of targeted killing in the limits of Khan Raziq police station early on Thursday, police said.

Sources said that it seems a sectarian incident as the victim belonged to Shia sect.

A police official identified the deceased as Malik Jarar Ali Haider, a resident of Marviha locality of the interior city.

The official said that Malik Jarar was taking his two daughters to their school, situated on Warsak Road, on a motorbike when unidentified assailants attacked him on Muhammad Ali Johar Road near Qissa Khawni Bazaar.

The official said that Mr Jarar was killed in the attack while his daughters Bisma Haider and Rubab Haider sustained minor injuries after falling from the motorbike. He said that the children were taken to Lady Reading Hospital from where they were discharged after preliminary treatment.

The official said that it was not clear as to how many assailants took part in the attack and whether they were riding a bike or were on foot.

However, another source told Dawn that the attackers were on foot and managed to escape towards Chowk Nasir Khan.
