KARACHI: After experiencing shock elimination in the knockout stage one after the other, Pakistan ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams conjured up emphatic victories over their respective opponents in their opening matches of the third Asian Team Event snooker championship in Kish Island, Iran, on Thursday.

The A team comprising the pair of Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad that finished runners-up in the last edition at home in 2014, thrashed Iraq 3-0. The Pakistani duo won the battle 106-5, 81-30, 66-37.

Similarly, the second outfit sent Iran ‘C’ team packing 3-1 that also includes a splendid break of 121 by Hamza Akbar in the doubles frame. Shahram Changezi is the other player of Pakistan outfit.

The ‘B’ team recovered from a frame down to post a 36-61, 69-0, 121-0, 64-42 victory.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Soheil Vahedi captured the 6-Reds crown by getting the better of compatriot Ehsan Hyderinezhad 7-4 in the final.

Results:

Pakistan ‘A’ bt Iraq 3-0 (106-5, 81-30, 66-37); Pakistan ‘B’ bt Iran ‘C’ 3-1 (36-61, 69-0, 121-0, 64-42).
