KARACHI: Peshawar and Bahawalpur became the first set of teams to qualify for the semi-finals of the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars Under-16 Tournament in Islamabad on Sunday.

Bad weather on the second and last day of play saw both quarter-finals being drawn but Peshawar and Bahawalpur moved to the next phase of the competition after taking lead on the first innings against Multan and Abbottabad, respectively.

Peshawar, who were 157-2 in reply to Multan’s 232 on Saturday, collected 241-6 when play was called off due to bad light at the National Ground.

Abbottabad began the day at 70-6 in response to Bahawalpur’s 139 at the Diamond Club Ground in the federal capital, but managed only a paltry tally of 84 as Mohammad Junaid claimed five wickets for 33 runs.

Batting again, Bahawalpur had advanced to 91-6 in their second innings when the game finished.

Meanwhile, the remaining two last-eight fixtures started in Lahore on Sunday.

Karachi made an impressive 296-9 in the stipulated 70 overs at the Ittefaq Cricket Ground before Sialkot responded by reaching 93-2 in 28 overs at draw of stumps.

Dera Murad Jamali were 84-1 after Fahad Hussain had grabbed seven wickets for 69 runs to restrict Lahore to a moderate total of 214 at the Shah Faisal Cricket Ground.
