NOWSHERA: Local JUI-F leader Mir Hamza was gunned down here on Friday night.

The police said unidentified gunmen killed Mir Hamza when he was returning home after offering night prayer at a local mosque.

Mir Hamza was a teacher at a government high school in Nowshera cantonment area.

He was also the in charge of the city’s major mosque, Taqwa Masjid, where he used to teach seminarians.

The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Nowshera for autopsy.

Relatives said they didn’t suspect anyone to be behind the killing as neither they nor the deceased had enmity.

CM CRITICISES PM: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for claiming the ruling PTI has failed to make ‘Naya Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ during the last two years and the job will be done by his party, the PML-N.

Khattak told reporters at his camp office here that how the prime minister could make ‘Naya Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ when he restricted himself to the Governor’s House.

“If the prime minister is sincere about his Naya Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claim, then he should give Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the rights usurped by his federal government,” he said.

Excise and taxation minister Mian Jamshaidudin, MPA Khaliqur Rehman and MNA Imran Khattak were also present on the occasion.

“Prime Minister should not worry about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as we (PTI government) have initiated mega development projects in the province on sustainable basis,” he said.

The chief minister said his government was striving to ensure good governance and the people’s access to justice, education and healthcare.

He said the prime minister should have announced early payment of arrears to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and mega development projects in the province on behalf of the centre instead of criticising the provincial government.

“Mere rhetoric can’t change the people’s life,” he said.

Khattak said the prime minister should ensure immediate end to the excessive electricity loadshedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa though it produced cheap electricity and contributed it to the national grid.
