KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday banned pillion riding in Karachi for three days for security reasons after a fatal attack on a policeman escorting a polio team earlier in the day, an official said.

A home department spokesman said the provincial administration on the advice of the Karachi police had banned the pillion riding which would become effective 12am on Tuesday.

“The home department has under Section 144 CrPC imposed complete ban on pillion riding...from Jan 27 to 29 in Karachi,” he said.

The ban shall not be applicable to women, children below 12 years of age, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law-enforcement and security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services.
