KARACHI: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two suspected militants in the Sohrab Goth area.

Acting on a tip-off, the police signalled a car in Jinjal Goth but the driver tried to speed away while other occupants of the car started firing.

However, the police managed to arrest two suspects, said Superhighway Industrial SHO Rana Haseeb.

The held suspects were identified as Azeem Mehsud and Munawar Mehsud.

Azeem is the father of Daud Mehsud who allegedly masterminded the bomb attack at CID SSP Chaudhry Aslam’s residence in Darakshan in 2011, he said.

He also generated funds for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan through sale and purchase of cars.

He said that Daud was travelling in another car and he managed to escape.

The police claimed to have seized over Rs700,000, 40 files of cars and three TT pistols from their custody.
