LAYYAH: Efforts by the bar and the bench under the judicial policy have helped courts settle years-long cases and now only 60 such cases are pending in different courts. This was stated by outgoing district and sessions court judge Malik Muhammad Rafique in a farewell reception hosted by the Layyah District Bar Association on Saturday.

Mr Rafique said that during his tenure in the district, a library and a dispensary were established on district courts premises. The judge also praised the role of reporters for accurate reporting of the court work which, according to him, enhanced public trust in courts.

His successor, District and Sessions Judge Rai Nazir Ahmed, said on the occasion he would augment coordination between the bench and the bar to provide speedy justice to the people of the district.

DBA President Habibullah said the noble conduct of judicial and civil officers created a better impact on the public and people did remember them even after their transfer. He said Mr Rafique was leaving pleasant memories with his noble conduct and good court work.

The farewell was attended by special anti-corruption judge Muhammad Akram and judicial officers besides District Coordination Officer (DCO) Gulzar Ahmed and District Police Officer Ghazi Salahuddin.

MDG: Bhakkar DCO Muhammad Zaman Wattoo says Bhakkar will will have the MDGs Acceleration Framework soon to reduce poverty through socio-economic development and an utmost improvement of resources for increasing per capita income, especially in the agriculture sector. The sectors of education, health, water management, women empowerment, environmental enhancement and sustainability would also get maximum emphasis under the framework.

Mr Zaman said this at a meeting at his office to review the interventions proposed by the government departments as well as tehsil municipal administrations for the framework. He reviewed proposed interventions in the meeting and extended guidelines to the officers to achieving the targets. He called a consolidated report containing strategy of implementation on the targets of MDGs.
