KARACHI: An alleged criminal wanted by the Punjab police in over a dozen cases was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Mominabad on Thursday night, the police said.

They added that two suspects were riding a motorcycle when a police party indicated them to stop in Rahim Shah Colony. The suspects opened fire on the policemen, who returned fire killing a suspect while the other escaped in wounded condition, said Karachi-West SSP Azfar Mahesar.

The deceased was identified as Dilawar, alias Dilawri, who was said to be wanted in 13 murder, attempted murder and other cases and the Punjab government had announced Rs100,000 reward for his arrest, the officer said.

Meanwhile, the Rangers claimed to have arrested five suspected militants after raids in different parts of Orangi Town on Thursday, said their spokesperson.
