KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have killed an alleged facilitator for the Karsaz tragedy. The 2007 terror attack had killed 150 people when two successive blasts ripped through a procession to welcome the then Pakistan Peoples Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Police raided Manghopir area late night Monday on a tip-off regarding a suspect who was involved in the suicide blast aimed to kill Benazir Bhutto.

During the search operation, the raid party confronted the alleged culprit Firdous Khan and killed him after an hour long encounter.

SSP CID Usman Bajwa told the media that the accused Khan had played the role of facilitator in the suicide attack.

“Firdous Khan was associated with banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan Mehsud group,” he said.

Bajwa claimed that Khan had brainwashed and equipped a bomber with explosives. Police also said they recovered a rifle from the possession of the accused.
