KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Sunday said that male-specific colleges should be established if needed and disagreed with the notion, which proposed equal quota for male and female students.

Presiding over the first meeting of the senate of the Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) at the Governor’s House, he added: “Meritorious female students can never be ignored or left out in any circumstances.”

He said that instead of elevating the ratio for male students in medical institutions, separate boys medical colleges should be established if the country needed a greater number of male doctors and not at the cost of female students who qualified purely on merit. Vice chancellor Dr Tariq Rafi apprised the meeting of the performance of the university since it had been established two years ago.
