KHAIRPUR, Sept 5: The growers of Thari Mirwah sub-division held a protest demonstration on Friday against spurious pesticides being supplied to them.

Later, speaking at a press conference, they said that a pest, Lashkari Sundhi, had attacked cotton crops throughout the district, specially in Setharja.

They said that the crop was being destroyed due to the attack of this pest.

They appealed to the Sindh government to carry out aerial spray in the areas where crops had been attacked.

PROTEST: Earlier, the growers held a demonstration against the fake sale of pesticides in front of the Khairpur Press Club.

TWO KILLED: Two people, Mohammad Ameen Gujjar and Mohammad Naeem, were killed and another was injured when a truck and a trailer collided head on on the National Highway, near Khairpur, on Friday.

The truck driver, Mohammad Anwar Gujjar, was injured and was admitted to the Civil Hospital Khairpur.

MAN KILLED: Three armed tried to snatch a motorcycle from a man, Ghulam Shabbir, and when the latter tried to resist, the former opened fire killing him on the spot in the Razi Dero area, Gambat Taluka, on Friday.

INJURED: Seven passengers of a train were injured when the Shah Rukin-i-Alam, travelling from Multan to Karachi, rammed into a tractor trolley at the Wari village railway crossing, near Khairpur, on Thursday.

However, the engineer of the train averted a major disaster by pulling the emergency breaks on time. The driver of the tractor trolley fled immediately.

The injured were taken in a train to Rohri for being provided first aid. Their names could not be ascertained.

When contacted the railway police and Khairpur railway station officials refused to talk about the accident.
