PESHAWAR: At least one civilian killed and two others were injured on Tuesday as mortar shells fired from across the border in Afghanistan hit a house in Charmang Tehsil of Bajaur Agency.

Official sources confirmed that two mortar shells fired from across the border hit the house of a tribesman Sheene in Babra Charmang leaving one person dead and two others injured.

The sources said the mortars were fired by the militants.

The western part of Pakistan’s tribal areas, especially Mohmand and Bajaur agencies bordering Afghanistan's Kunar and Nuristan provinces, have faced cross-border militant attacks in the past.

Bajaur, a tribal region in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), is governed by tribal laws.

An extremist insurgency led by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) plagues the region and the area is known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda and other armed extremist organisations.
