PESHAWAR: Militants attacked a security checkpost along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Bajaur tribal agency early on Saturday, killing three security personnel including a captain, officials said.

Official sources say that militants from across the border in Kunar province of Afghanistan attacked the security check-post in Mamond area in the small hours of Saturday.

The attack also injured two other people, they said.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) have yet to officially confirm the attack or the casualties.

The Western part of Pakistan’s tribal areas, especially Mohmand and Bajaur agencies bordering Afghnaistan’s Kunar and Nuristan provinces, have faced cross-border militant attacks in the past.

Similar attacks by the Mulllah Fazlullah-led Taliban, who are said to be enjoying safe havens in Nuristan and Kunar, have previously also been mounted in bordering settled areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Dir and Lower Dir.

The militants killed senior military commander General Sanaullah last year as he returned after visiting a newly established checkpost along the Afghan border.
