BAHAWALPUR: Local leaders and activists of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Thursday demonstrated in favour of the party in the face of Azadi and Inqilab marches.

Scores of activists led by MPA Fauzia Ayub Qureshi and other leaders staged a rally from Fawara Chowk to express solidarity with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

They raised slogans against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek for besieging the Parliament House.

ENROLMENT DRIVE: Officials at a function of Universal Primary Education said on Thursday that 80pc of the target the government had set under its student enrolment campaign had been achieved.

The remaining target would be met by Oct 31, they said while pointing out that the education department had fixed a target of 159,000 children’s admission to schools.

The function was presided over by Punjab Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar who directed the officials to meet the target fixed by the government without delay.

EDO (Education) Chaudhry Muhammad Bashir said about 100 schools had joined the network for gearing up the enrolment drive.

Earlier, a walk from S.D. High School to Farid Gate was organised to create awareness among people about the importance of education.
