KARACHI: Eight people were arrested on Friday for violating a ban on bathing in the sea.

A statement issued by the office of the Karachi commissioner said that those held were swimming in the sea despite the ban imposed under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code. They were being advised by the volunteers and law enforcers not to go into the water, but they paid no heed, it added.

It stated that that despite the recent Seaview tragedy, people still wanted to go to the beach for swimming.

The statement asked them not to go to the sea during the monsoon.
