LAHORE: Taimur Rehman, a political activist and member of liberal rock band ‘Laal’ announced the birth of Zara Rehman into his family - and band - on Twitter and Facebook on Sunday.

Rehman had earlier updated his Facebook with hopes that, "this new soul see a world free of war, suffering, exploitation and oppression."

Taimur Rehman is frontman and guitarist for the quartet band Laal, member of the Communist Mazdoor Kisaan Party.

The band, formed in 2007 and known for their progressive politics, debuted with the album Umeed-i-Sehar which can be defined as a musical score to the socially-conscious literature of Habib Jalib, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Ahmed Faraz. A sort of tribute band to the nation's poetry of dissent.

The band's official page was blocked on facebook last month on the request of the government, a claim which the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) has denied.

Their Facebook page has more than 400,000 likes, with users frequently joining debates on issues ranging from feminism to the role of the country's army in politics.
