KARACHI: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was gunned down on Monday by unidentified assailants in Korangi’s Zia Colony, DawnNews reported.

According to sources, the deceased was identified as Yousuf.

Two days ago, ASI Rehmat Ali, on a tip-off, conducted a raid on a house at Garh Fateh Shah to arrest a proclaimed offender Jaafar Ali where he was beaten to death by the residents.

Also on June 17, a police officer was shot dead during an encounter with robbers looting the occupants of a vehicle in Nazimabad-2.

The deceased was named as ASI Asif Shamoon.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.

Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
