LAHORE: In a major breakthrough in the Farzana murder case, the former husband and brother of the bludgeoned woman were arrested on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

Today’s arrest has taken the toll of detained persons to 12.

Earlier, police had registered a case against 28 persons, including the victim’s family members, on an application filed by her husband. A team was also constituted to investigate the murder which has made 12 arrests so far.

The arrested persons include the victim’s father, former husband, a brother, an uncle, two cousins and some relatives.

Meanwhile, investigation is still underway to arrest the remaining suspects nominated in the murder.

Farzana Parveen was murdered on May 27 outside the Lahore High Court in a so-called honour killing by more than two dozen attackers, including her brother and father, for marrying against her family's wishes.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had demanded “immediate action” over the brutal murder

The brazen, brutal nature of the killing, in broad daylight in the centre of Pakistan's second largest city, triggered outrage around the world.
